International Classification of Diseuses


The purpose of the classification:
The International Classification of Diseases gives a unique code for each disease and is designed for use in Statistics in all parts of the world and it’s so detailed that it includes all pathological cases and it is recognized internationally.


Why classification is used:
The international classification is used to encode pathological cases in hospitals and health care units and for recording deaths and thus the classification guarantees two essential elements are:

  • The epidemiology of science seeks the relationship between diseases and external factors such as gender / Residence / profession / age / social habits such as smoking, alcohol consumption, abnormal consumption of drugs.
  • The science of managing health care is also interested in the number of diseases / length of stay in medical facilities / services provided / processing results and recently the healthcare and medical systems are highlighted seen increases in the cost of treatment which presents a burden for the state budget.

So classification allows for recording, analyzing, evaluating, comparing between the mortality data and disease data collected in different countries or different regions of the same country. The classification allows translating diagnoses code to be easy to store.
